This morning Chickasaw county reports our first COVID-19 case. It was a matter of time, you could watch on the map the cases were creeping closer and closer every day. We are on week 3 of being home and initially today was the day I was to return to work. The shut down has extended at this point 4 more weeks. The kids are extended as well and are still set to return to school next month. The missed weeks of school as of right now are not mandatory to be made up. It's been said that I'd there is another extension school will not resume this year. There are a lot of questions that go along with this! We are trying to put in place online learning at this time. Currently at this very moment my 5th grade daughter is in tears because she is so unsure of what she is doing. It really is taking a role on everyone! I have spent the last 5 days with a pinched nerve in my shoulder. I broke down yesterday, after two trips to the chiropractor, and went to a walk in clinic in Waverly. There...

If there is anything positive that comes from this time ar home it is the amount of cleaning we are accomplishing! Our cleaning task yesterday was the toy room and it was a very large one! It does feel good to check some boxes around the house. I have recieved news that our dental office shut down will be extended another 2 weeks. It seems as though we haven't come close to the peak of this pandemic so if I had to guess that wont be the last extension. The latest statistics are globally there are just shy of  621,000 positive cases. Over 28,000 deaths. The united states have surpassed China is the amount of positive cases that we are aware of. There are over 104,000 cases in the United States alone with 1,749 deaths so far. These numbers are dramatically changing day to day. Last Thursday night alone New York lost 13 people over night. I've been off of work for a week now and I feel like my mind is a little more at ease. My kids are doing well with their new routine. I am really trying to take advantage of the time off and tackle one job a day in the house! So far my car has been detailed, some windows washed, and some deeper cleaning to come. Nationwide the total number of COVID-19 cases has grown to over 69,000. Iowa having 146 of those cases and we have had our states first death due to the virus. The biggest news locally is that we have a case being tested right in New Hampton. This person works with my husband so the results are much anticipated. Sounds like we will hear results in the morning. This could impact our community a great deal. If we can find any positivity at this point, time spent together helps us grow. I can actually say my kids have turned some new leaves in their relationships with eachother and with myself. I think we have to try and keep our glasses half full.

Day 3... If it wasn't bad enough the weather is still rainy and we are stuck in the house. Surrounded by walls eventually will drive me crazy! We are continuing on with at home school work, or at least our attempt of school work. The girls are working on math quite a bit today. I am stressing at least a half hour of reading as well. Friday the girls think should be a school "fun day". During Elliots nap we have decided to pop some popcorn and watch a movie. Brenna has passed a pretty tough spelling test.  Lauren close, she second guessed herself, changed and answer that would have been correct.  So I will take that as a win! Last minute Tyler mentions picking up pizza for suppe . I may not have gotten myself ready for the day but I am jumping on this opportunity to not cook and get out of the house! Day 2. Today the numbers of COVID-19 cases are on the rise. I am hearing that more and more local businesses are closing their doors. It's an eerie feeling not knowing how long this will go on. My personal fear at this point is not having enough groceries on hand in the house. Yes, we will survive. However, I am finding, you don't know what you need until you need it. My kids are a bit on edge themselves.  How do you ease the minds of children. They don't comprehend like adults which makes the fear, in ways, deeper. I do believe in keeping the kids busy.  We used the school math books today for an hour, studied spelling words, and read for about 45 minutes.  We had a recess in the garage again today due to the, again, cold rainy weather! As if its not enough to get stuck home, we are stuck inside. An interesting finding this morning, it sounds as though there are 2 asteroids also in route for our earth. Bare with me as I am not a writer, instead a mom and a newly laid off dental professional due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Yesterday I reported to my morning huddle at work and was completely blindsided with the startling information that we were closing our doors due to the viral pandemic. I should not haven been so shocked as school had already been closed for the next 4 weeks and several other businesses in our community had started taking the steps of caution in limiting hours or closing as well. I am, sort of, still in some kind of denial. Is this really happening? How long could this actually go on? How many people will be affected? I do know the answer to that question, everyone. These are uncharted waters. I understand that what we are experiencing right now is history. My goal, with this blog, is to have memory of the history that is being made. Someday I hope to have grandkids that can share with their grandkids what we are now experiencing...at least in my house! I am a...
